Many people have heard of The Law of Attraction, but have you been acquainted with the Law of Assumption? Neville Goddard is the Godfather of The Law of Assumption, developing this incredible concept that what you believe and what you assume creates and shapes your reality.
~
Basically, whatever you assume to be true will manifest into your reality.
Whether you believe in manifesting or not, it’s fair to say that there are people in this world who either seem to have it all or seem to always be down on their luck. Whether you are one of these people or know someone who is, what is the first thought that comes to mind when you think of how this person lives their life?
The people who seem to have to have it all believed they would (even before they may have had any proof that they would get what they desired), while the people who stay stagnant believe they could never achieve their wildest dreams. They assume their dreams are too big, too out there, too wild, so instead they assume their life is destined to be plain.
If you are the person who believes your life is destined to be plain, it will be. If you assume you will not do anything great or have anything extraordinary, then your assumptions will be correct, and you will live an extremely ordinary life, wondering why you were never able to take anything to the next level.
What we believe ourselves to be is what we become. The Law of Assumption is incredible when put into practice because it allows seemingly ordinary people to do extraordinary things. All because they assume they can, and they will.
We see this in the business world all the time. People with two cents to their name believe so much in what they are creating and assume they will succeed that they seemingly start pulling money out of thin air, create support networks from nothing, and go on to share their stories with the world, all because they believed they could.
It works the opposite way as well, unfortunately, and far too many people live their lives believing they cannot and will not achieve anything. We encourage kids to dream and believe they can be anything from astronauts to rock stars, but at some point, those same kids grow up to be told that their dreams are no longer attainable and that they must stop playing so riskily.
So, those same people who once had those big, uninhibited dreams now shrink themselves down and assume they are not destined for anything great because they are too scared to take a risk. For fear of failing, they live their lives on the sidelines, only wishing, instead of ASSUMING, their life could be different.
Because even when you fly, you need to fall for a few seconds first. And it is those few seconds of falling that hold so many people back from ever being able to fly. From assuming they ever could.
If you’re one of those people who has always wanted to fly but assumed you just couldn’t and you’d like to change your mindset, there are a few key things to start doing, which are really important.
- SELF-CONCEPT WORK
Your self-concept dictates so much of how your life is and will be. Basically, your self-concept is the set of beliefs you have about yourself and who you are. When you ask yourself, “Who am I?” what thoughts come to mind?
If these thoughts are negative or ordinary, then the first thing you need to do is to flip your thinking. You might believe this won’t change anything, but simply rewriting the narratives that play over and over in your mind can truly have an impact on how you think of yourself. So next time you’re sitting around telling yourself you’re a failure, an idiot, that you’ll amount to nothing, switch it up. Begin telling yourself positive things: “I am successful”, “I am smart”, “I can achieve anything I put my mind to”. It might feel funny at first, but the more you do it, the easier it becomes.
- ENVISION WHAT YOU DESIRE
Daydreaming is incredibly important, and too many of us simply put the daydreams aside at some point and lock those visions away. But the good thing is, those visions still exist, and the moment you allow yourself to start daydreaming about what you want, a flood of everything you’ve been holding back on will spring to life.
Our minds do not know the difference between what is real and what is imagined. So, if every day you are closing your eyes and envisioning yourself on a beach with white sand, your mind will actually believe that’s where you are and what you’re doing.
But it’s important to take it one step further. Don’t just close your eyes and picture it, but also, feel as though you are actually there. What do you smell? How does the sand feel between your toes? Feel the joy and laughter surrounding you and the hot sun beating down on your face. Feeling is just as important as seeing it all play out in your mind because this is how we start to really show our minds what we desire.
If starting a successful business is your biggest goal, then close your eyes and feel the product you’re creating between your fingers, feel excited about the money coming in, and really allow yourself to live that success in your mind’s eye. How does it feel?
- ASSUME YOU ALREADY HAVE WHAT YOU WANT
This one is so important and will become easier the more you work on your self-concept and allow yourself to envision your desires. Once you really start to get comfortable with doing those things, it will almost become natural to start assuming that your desires can come true.
The key is not to wish or want the things we desire. Not to lust after or pray for them. Wishing, wanting, lusting, and praying come from a lack mindset. It is telling your brain that you do not have these things yet and, therefore, not allowing you to actually live as though you actually have them.
Think of it, if you already had a seven-figure company, would you be wishing for a seven-figure company? If you were already sitting on the beach on vacation, would you be praying for the chance to be there? No, you would simply be so happy that you achieved everything you wanted and that your assumptions came true.
So, start living your life as if you already have everything you desire. Hang out in trendy hotel bars if your dream is to be a millionaire and mingle with the elite. Tell people you are planning a trip down south (even if you have no clue how you will pay for it). Speak and act as the person you want to become would and assume you are already that person.
It might seem crazy, and for anyone who has not done this work yet, it might definitely push you out of your comfort zone, but that’s where the magic happens. No big dreams have ever come from anyone staying in the comfort zone, and the people who have magic follow them wherever they go, have it because they simply believe that magic is all around them already.
The same goes for the other end of the spectrum. If you assume nothing works out for you, that your life sucks, that you aren’t worth or deserving of love, luck, money, or magic, then you will simply create more of what you assume. Look back on what got you to the point you’re in now? I can guarantee it wasn’t from assuming your life was magical.
At the end of the day, your life will go one of two ways: ordinary or magical. The only difference between the two is how you assume it will all turn out.
